10 Weeks Post MALS Surgery – an update

Here’s a little video update – there have been some surprises! (Click on the picture below.)

Quick summary!

10 week post MALS Surgery notes

Pros:

  • Lots of freedom in anterior chest/ribcage
  • No more pain at sternal notch right after eating (though I do often have pain later, usually further down.)
  • Sense of anxiety at solar plexus is mostly gone

Negs:

  • 1.5 weeks post surgery had big crash – not sure if it was a G.I. bug or just from too much diarrhea post constipation.  (7 days post surgery no bowel movement.)
  • 2.5 weeks started with some high pressure headaches.
  • Still pretty POTSy.  Electrolytes.
  • Energy is wacky – feel like I can do stuff, then crash suddenly, then I’m surprised that a 20 minute nap can give me a 2nd wind.
  • Sleep needs – maybe 10% more, usually taken in afternoon nap.  Might be sleeping more efficiently, not sure if due to healing or downregulated nervous system.
  • Less, and less, I get tummy upset when over-exerting.

Bowel and bladder function seem to slowly be coming on line.  Used a combination of Reglan, Hyocymine, Colase, as well as my usual Colonmax and Magnesium supplements.  Still somewhat gassy- have wondered about SIBO.
